I recently teamed up with BBC Ice Cream to shoot their new line. BBC BEE line is Mark McNairy and Pharrell Williams. The line of luxury gear was born out of a conversation Williams and McNairy had over a possible boot collaboration that turned into a full capsule collection. Even the collection’s name, Bee Line, has noble ties as Williams was inspired by Napoleon’s decision to replace fleur-de-lis with the insect as France’s royal symbol. The preview showcases signature design sensibilities from both men, with jackets, caps, shirts, pants and boots all getting their fair chance to shine. All Photos By Shadi

Harmony Korine and his Grandma in Queens by Shadi

I find myself in all kinds of crazy situations to be able to document great subjects. This time I was an AD (assistant director) on a video that Harmony was directing for Sebohdoh. This was shortly after Kids was filmed. I had my trusty Leica M6 and a few rolls of Tri-X. In between working I got some great images of everyone on the set. Chloe Sevigney was there as well as Larry Clark and Clarrisa Glucksman and her brother Sammy. This is a shot of Harmony playing around with his grandmother who did a cameo in the video.

My dear friend Malik Yoba on Kemare Street. No matter how famous this guy gets he is always a sweet honest funny guy. Believe it or not we used to be bike messengers together in the late 80's (yikes I'm old) Yes Malik had fix bike skills and I think he still has them judging how he can trackstand with flip flops on.

So I shot a pic of Sean Lennon with my friend Mai in the good ole days of Beatrice inn. I miss that spot. 

Al Green on film

So I Must be the worst photographer businessman I know. I get access to all these incredible people and I shoot them and then I forget about the pictures. So I shot Al Green a few years ago and it was a video shoot but I brought my Pentax 67 along and got him to pose for a roll. I mean this guy is a legend and I shoot it and forget about it until I hear Obama at the Apollo singing an Al Green song. Ok so here is a portion of the contact sheet I shot of Al Green. One day ill print a few and show the world or even better sell a few and buy a house.

City of Life and Death

 It is seldom that I am physically moved by a film but when I am I like to tell everyone about it. City of Life and Death or Nánjīng! Nánjīng!  is a Chinese film directed by Lu Chuan. It is about the Japanese Invasion of the formal capitol of Nanjing during WW2. There was some brutal raping and killing of the Chinese and this film shows it. This film is gorgeous but brutal in the same breath. This was made a few years ago and went thru a lot of scrutiny by the Chinese government to get finished.  You don’t see many films about the Chinese vs Japanese during this time but there is another one of the same battle coming out soon directed by Zhang Yimou starring Christian Bale as a priest called “Flowers of War” which will be as graphic or more since its a bigger budget.

Pharrell's Qream release party (hee hee)
