DONT TELL ME ABOUT FIX GEAR BIKES HIPSTER!

These are some pics of guys I was on the road with when I was a messenger from 1987-1990. Essau(pointing 2 fingers) is still a messenger on the bike(incredible), a few of the other guys like "Born"(Bandanna on the head) died too young. We used to hang out in Washington Square Park when things were slow or after work. Most of us had shitty fixed gear bikes but they worked for up to 60 miles a day. I used to ride a Matsuri Fix. It was painted Bronze and it cost around $300. My buddy Ross rode a Colnago Fix it cost around $1200 and he wrapped it in Rubber tires but you couldnt hide the Campy C-Record Hubs and Cranks. I didnt know too much about fixed gear racing or bikes but i knew from other guys that they did the job. Fast, efficient, and very little maintenance. I would ride from Soundview in the Bronx down to my base on Wooster street(12 miles). I would hope for a rush when I got around 57th street but usually had to go all the way downtown to kiss the ass of the dispatcher. I still see these guys from time to time. We all share a special bond of being messengers in the pre-fax machine days.

Cargobike is the new trackbike anyway...Fixed gear is so 80's-90's...
Got a picture of Slacker Tim and/or James Moore (he acutally is been living in Berlin since 96')?

Ride Safe...

Keep the throw backs comin' Shadi!

I'll keep it 100 - I never heard of fixed or even single speeds 'till they got popular enough to cross my radar, so I'm glad they got blown up b/c I ride mine all the time and really dig the connection to the speed...
I'm amped that hella people in the US are now rolling one way or another - lets shed some lbs and compete with the global fly!
